Kansas Waterfowl Hunts
Kansas lies in the heart of the Central Flyway, making it one of the country's premier destinations for duck and goose hunting. At King Whitetails, we hunt approximately 20,000 acres of private ground, including river holes, ponds, agricultural fields, and waterfowl properties around Milford Lake.
The scale of our operation is important. When birds change fields, water, or flight patterns, we have other ground to work with. Our hunts are built around the peak Kansas duck and goose hunting seasons, with options for individual hunters, small groups, and corporate groups.
20,000 Acres of Kansas Waterfowl Ground
Our waterfowl properties cover a large area around Milford Lake and include a mix of river holes, ponds, and agricultural fields. Milford Lake and the surrounding wildlife area hold large numbers of birds, and the northern location can be especially useful early in the season and during milder weather when birds may stay farther north.
We do not rely on one type of water or one field. The guides watch where the birds are using the ground and adjust the hunt accordingly. That flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of having such a large area to hunt.

The Ducks and Geese
Mallards are the backbone of our duck hunting, but the variety can change throughout the season. Pintails, wigeon, and gadwalls can add to the strap, particularly in December. On the larger lakes, hunters can also encounter redheads, ring-necks, and canvasbacks as birds stage and move south.
Goose hunting offers just as much variety. Our spreads can see lessers, greaters, giants, snows, and specklebellies, and we take particular pride in the number of cacklers we harvest each season.

Field and Water Setups
We hunt both agricultural fields and potholes, using the setup that best fits where the birds are working. Most hunts are conducted from comfortable Tanglefree panel blinds or layout blinds.
Access to our hunting areas is made with UTV side-by-sides, and in most cases we can drive right up to the blind area. That keeps the walk to the setup short and lets us spend more time focused on the hunt.

Experienced Waterfowl Guides
Teddy Carr heads the King Whitetails waterfowl operation and brings 30 years of waterfowl guiding experience. Chris Cook also guides for King Whitetails and has 5 years of waterfowl guiding experience.
Whether you are an experienced waterfowl hunter or are booking your first guided duck and goose hunt, the guides handle the setup and help you understand the conditions, birds, and calling strategy.

A Full Day on the Waterfowl Ground
Our three-day waterfowl package includes morning and evening sits, giving hunters multiple opportunities to hunt changing bird patterns throughout the day. Generally, hunters can expect a full day of hunting, although weather, bird movement, and other conditions can sometimes affect the schedule.
About 95% of our waterfowl hunting is within a 30-minute drive of the lodge. We do have several properties that are 45 minutes to an hour away when the birds and conditions make the extra drive worthwhile.

Waterfowl License and Gear
Before hunting, make sure you have the required Kansas and federal waterfowl documentation for the season. Kansas waterfowl seasons and regulations change by year and zone, so hunters should confirm the current requirements before their trip. Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks publishes the current season dates, zones, and regulations.
- Kansas state hunting license
- Kansas state waterfowl stamp
- Federal Duck Stamp, signed
- Kansas HIP stamp
- Windproof and waterproof clothing
- Waterproof knee-high field boots
- Waders if you have them
For ammunition, we recommend high-density loads such as those made by Boss Ammo or Heavy X. We generally recommend No. 4 or 5 shot for ducks and No. 2 shot for geese.

Bird Processing
Birds are either breasted or hitched and packaged individually with their tag. We have freezer and refrigeration space onsite. Bird cleaning is $5 per bird, or hunters can use our bird cleaning facility and supplies for self-service cleaning.
Arrival and Departure
Waterfowl hunters should arrive the day before their first scheduled hunt day no earlier than 4:00 PM. Hunters can depart after the last hunt or the following day by 9:00 AM. King Whitetails does not provide airport transportation.
Limited Pressure, More Ground to Hunt
We typically take around 20 waterfowl hunters across the season. Keeping the number of hunters limited allows us to spread pressure across a large amount of ground and make decisions based on where the birds are actually using the properties.
The goal is simple: hunt the birds rather than force the birds to fit the plan. When weather or migration conditions change, our guides have multiple properties and different types of water and agricultural ground available to work with.
